GREENSKEEPER

Status: Full or Part Time (Hourly) Wage Range: $15 - $20 DOE
Reports to: Superintendent  
 

General Summary: The primary goal of this position is to make the course as anesthetically pleasing as possible for the enjoyment of the club members. This is accomplished through daily mowing and manicuring the golf course.
  
Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities:

  1. Operating walking greens mowers, riding greens mowers, tee, collars, approach mowers, fairway mowers, mounding mowers and rough mowers.
  2. Bunker maintenance including raking, trimming, and cleaning.
  3. Clearing greens and course of debris such as needles, leaves and trash.  Manually or using backpack blowers.  
  4. Operation of utility vehicles and other turf equipment.
  5. Use of small equipment such as weed eaters, edgers, and sod cutters.
  6. Filling divots.

 Other Functions:

  1. Involved in cultural practices of aerification and topdressing.
  2. Construction of golf course greens, tees, or bunkers.
  3. Tree maintenance including thinning and clean up of downed trees.
  4. Cleaning cart paths.
  5. Drainage and irrigation installation and maintenance.
  6. Assisting other departments.
Specific Job Skills:  
  1. Need high degree of foot/hand/eye coordination when operating equipment. 
  2. Physical strength for lifting and strong cardiovascular fitness to walk mow greens.
  3. Requires good vision and hearing.
  4. Good reading comprehension.
  5. Must be able to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
Education and/or Experience:
  1. Experience in golf course maintenance or knowledge of golf preferred, not mandatory.
  2. Valid driver’s license or reliable transportation.
Job Conditions:
  1. Start time ranges from 6am-7am.
  2. Exposed to all types of weather conditions including very wet, very cold to very hot.
  3. Operation of hazardous machinery.
  4. Schedule includes working weekends, holidays and overtime.

Job Complexity/Supervisory Responsibility:

  1. Operation of mowers and utility vehicles daily.
  2. Requires high degree of coordination with foot/hand/eye.
  3. The work is inspected daily by members and Superintendent.
  4. Work will be frequently interrupted by presence of golfers who have the right of way.
  5. Daily tasks are assigned by Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
  6. No supervisory responsibility.

Interpersonal Contacts: Contacts occur on a one-on-one or group basis through a face-to-face situation with members and other staff.  Exchanges usually involve questions/answers regarding the course and maintenance practices.
